The popularity of glass lanterns continues to grow and with good reason. With a candle—real or battery powered—lit within they warm your home and outdoor spaces with a delightful glow. Unlit they are a stylish accent. Hang them from trees, porches or Shepard's hooks near the deck, patio, or in the yard for a summer get-together or to enjoy any time. They can also be used outdoors for seasonal or holiday decorating with the battery powered candles. Look for Arte Italica, Surya Avery ceramic lanterns, and the fab glass and metal in nautical and antique styles at Belle and June.
Lanterns are a great little accent for mantels, side tables, shelves, a desk, even in the bath. Set on a stack of books, group various size lanterns together (they don't have to match), for a great summer or coastal look, set your candle in about 3-4 inches of sand in the bottom, with or without a few small sea shells, or fill with shells or sand for a fabulous coastal style accent; or for a lovely glow fill with tiny strings of fairy lights. For the holidays tie a cluster of small red berry branches and small evergreen boughs to the top with a plaid bow. For autumn do the same with orange berry branches, a few small stalks of wheat and an autumn print fabric bow or one of burlap. Fill with acorns. Another great look are various styles and sized of lanterns grouped on decorative trays. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination.
